Once, Akbar was in a very bad mood. That day, he did not even go to his court. Instead, he went to the garden.
As he walked in the garden, he stumbled upon a rock. His foot got hurt.
Akbar, at once, called the gardener,
''You have committed a crime. It is because of you I fell down. I shall punish you with a death sentence!''
The gardener was shocked. He pleaded before the Emperor, but his request fell on deaf ears.
The next day, the gardener was asked for last wish. He requested for a meeting with the Emperor in the royal courtroom.
The gardener came in the royal courtroom. He then walked towards the royal throne and loudly cleared the throat. He then spat at Akbar's feet.
Birbal took a step forward and said,
''Your majesty! This gardener is the most loyal citizen of your kingdom. He feared that people would talk ill about you for hanging him for a very small mistake. So he did a mistake that would most definitely get him the death sentence.''
Akbar was shocked. The gardener was had acted on Birbal's advice.
Akbar realised that he had wrongly tried to punish the gardener, and let him go.
